REPEAT POLE IMPACT TESTS OF THREE MORE AUTOMOBILES
This article and accompanying table, photographs and diagrams are excerpts from reports on three series of crash tests sponsored by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The tests were conducted at the Vehicle Research and Test Center in East Liberty, Ohio. The purpose of these tests was for research and development in support of the CRASH III damage algorithm reformation, i.e., perfecting the 'A', 'B' and 'G' constants. Three more vehicles were recently tested. The first was a 1987 Hyundai Excel 4-door sedan equipped with 1.5 liter transverse mounted engine and a 5-speed manual transmission. The Hyundai's curb and test weight was 2173 pounds. The second was a 1987 Ford Taurus 4-door sedan equipped with 3.0 liter transverse mounted engine and a 3-speed automatic transmission. The third was a 1992 Chevrolet Caprice 4-door sedan equipped with 5.7 liter in-line mounted engine and 4-speed automatic transmission.
