VEHICLE HANDLING AND TYRE CHARACTERISTICS

The importance of the manoeuvre-diagram, which characterizes the bend behaviour of cars, is outlined. It is ascertained that the characteristics of the tyre of the front and rear axles determine the form of the manoeuvre-curve. The influence of the form of the tyre characteristics and of the load transfer from the inside wheels to the outside wheels on these characteristics is discussed. An example is given to show what can be the consequence of the replacement of worn tires only on the front axle on the behaviour in bends on wet road surfaces. /TRRL/
