VIBRATION AND ROAD TRAFFIC IN THE UNITED KINGDOM

This paper is mainly concerned with vibrations transmitted to a whole mass by its supporting surface. In assessing the intensity of vibration likely to cause damage to buildings, a distinction can be made between structural damage and minor damage. This paper indicates the thresholds of both structural destruction (impairment of the function of the structure) and minor damage (such as cracked plaster), together with thresholds of perception, clear perception and pain for assessing bother by vibration in the environment of a road. Various methods of reducing vibration are suggested. /TRRL/
