The process of hot in place recycling, the top one- to one-and- one-half inches of the bituminous pavement, is called surfacing recycling by the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT). The following items are briefly discussed: (1) History and Performance; (2) Project Selection; (3) Laboratory Testing; (4) Economics and Bidding; (5) Project Construction; (6) Specifications and Inspection. KDOT has had extensive experience with surface recycling and it has not been considered an experiemental process for over 12 or 13 years.
