A HISTORY OF DIFFERENCES
Geotechnical engineering and the use of geosynthetic materials in the United States differs significantly from practices in Europe, Asia, and other parts of the world. This article explains those differences, focusing on the use of soil reinforcement materials, such as geogrids and reinforcing fabrics. Soil reinforcement in the United States is mainly in the form of high density polyethylene (HDPE) geogrids, while outside the United States, polyester (PET) reinforcing mats are most popular.
