INFORMATION DEMANDS FUEL GIS IN STATE DOTS

Geographic information systems (GIS) in transportation allow planners to spatially manage and integrate data to better plan, design, build, analyze, operate, and maintain transportation systems and facilities efficiently. The degree of development of GIS varies widely in state departments of transportation. This article highlights GIS applications in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Virginia.
