LAND USE AND TRANSPORTATION PLANNING, PORTLAND STYLE
The article looks at the succesful way Portland divised and implemented strategies for land use and transportation planning that have turned the city's downtown decline around to make the city center a vibrant, growing, and prospering core to Portland's metropolitan area. This was done with a commitment to transit, a willingness to innovate, a dedication to integrated land use and transportation planning, and a participatory planning process that involves planners, political leaders and the public. The plan was a joint effort of both public officials and the business commmunity.
