C'AST - A MODULAR SYSTEM FOR TAXI-FLEET-MANAGEMENT

There are a number of ways of providing local transport services which meet traffic needs and are demand-oriented. One of these is the share taxi service (in German, referred to as an AST service), a type of service which was first introduced in the former West Germany some ten years ago and has spread widely throughout modern Germany (Czernak 1993). This paper describes the technical and operational aspects of an integrated computer-controlled system as applied to the efficient operation of an AST service, and gives examples of ways in which it might be introduced.
