EVALUATION OF SECUREMENT SYSTEM DURING SEVERE DRIVING MANEUVERS

The Americans with Disabilities Act mandates the access to safe public transportation by the mobility aid (wheelchairs and scooters) using population. To improve travel safety and independence of this population, a rapidly applied universal auto-engage mobility aid securement and occupant restraint (The Cleveland Securement System) was developed. The prototype, consisting of a docking latch on the bus interfaced with a securement bracket, attached permanently or temporarily to the mobility aid, was compared in function to a four- belt and wheel-lock type system during severe driving maneuvres. This scientific poster presentation presents performance data of these tests. For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 873507.
