MINIMUM WEIGHT DESIGN OF LARGE STRUCTURES ON A NETWORK OF WORKSTATIONS
In this paper the authors present distributed algorithms for optimization of large structures on a network of workstations using genetic algorithms. They present performance estimates based on the granularity and parallelization efficiency of a model of distributed computing for structural optimization. Details of implementation of this model on a network of IBM RISC/6000 workstations using PVM (Parallel Virtual Machine) and their application to optimization of large-space structures are presented.
