THE IMPLICATIONS OF IMPROVED TRAFFIC FORECASTING PROCEDURES FOR REGIONAL/CORRIDOR TRANSPORTATION PLANNING AND PROJECT SELECTION

In completing an update of its long-range transportation plan, the Cedar Rapids Metropolitan Planning Organization overhauled its traffic forecasting procedures as well. This paper, which appears in a compendium of conference papers, discusses the necessity in updating the forecasting process, describes the new traffic forecasting procedures, and comments on the impacts of the change on the preparation of the long-range transportation plan, on transportation improvement programs, and on corridor studies.
