DEVELOPMENT OF A PROTOTYPE INTEGRATED MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

The Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act (ISTEA) of 1991 places an emphasis on multimodal and intermodal transportation planning. Development of the management systems required by the ISTEA will ensure that transportation planning for all modes will be adequately addressed at state and metropolitan levels. The Florida Department of Transportation has chosen to enhance the transportation planning process while satisfying the requirements of the ISTEA by developing an integrated management system for Miami and Metropolitan Dade County. The system will combine the ISTEA's congestion management system, public transportation management system, and intermodal management system. The purpose of this paper, which appears in a compendium of conference papers, is to document the foundation for this integrated system and report its progress to date.
