TRANSGUIDE: MANAGING HIGHWAYS IN AMERICA'S NINTH LARGEST CITY

"TransGuide works as advertised" declared the San Antonio Express-News in its coverage of the area's Advanced Traffic Management System, shortly after the project went on line. The 26-mile, $33 million facility got its first severe test when a tropical storm roared up from the Gulf of Mexico in early August and pounded San Antonio with high winds and torrential rains. This caused a series of accidents in the project area and a top-flight response from one of the nation's most sophisticated intelligent transportation systems. This report reviews the process leading up tp the installation of TransitGuide and identifies its key components.
