A CORE ITS INFRASTRUCTURE - THE ESSENTIAL BUILDING BLOCKS
Deployment of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) in the United States has accelerated dramatically over recent months. Components of this technology make up the building blocks for an integrated ITS information and communications platform, or what is described as a core ITS infrastructure. The ITS Quarterly posed a series of questions on core infrastructure to Dr. Christine Johnson, director of the Joint Program Office for ITS in the U.S. Department of Transportation. She explains why this 'foundation of communications and information technology' is essential for implementing many second generation ITS products and services.
