TRANSPORT STATISTICS FOR METROPOLITAN AREAS 1995

This report is a companion volume to "Transport Statistics for London 1995", and includes similar topics where data are available. It mainly covers the six former metropolitan counties: (1) West Midlands; (2) Greater Manchester; (3) Merseyside; (4) West Yorkshire; (5) South Yorkshire; and (6) Tyne and Wear. For comparison tables, Inner London and Greater London have also been included in many tables. Where possible, tables have been produced for 'major cities' in the areas as well as for the whole areas. Data have been obtained from a wide variety of sources. The report begins by outlining the highlights by area and background information about:(1) public transport provision; (2) public transport developments; and (3) road infrastructure. Then there are sections of statistical tables, charts, and commentary for: (1) population and employment; (2) traffic patterns; (3) roads; (4) road freight traffic; (5) other modes (public transport, bus traffic, walking and cycling, and air traffic); and (6) air quality. The years for these data vary, but are usually from early or mid 1980s to early or mid 1990s. Rough maps of the areas, and their built-up zones and motorways, are included.
