CONTINUITY OF PRECAST PRETENSIONED CONCRETE BEAMS BY EMBEDMENT IN INTEGRAL CROSSHEADS

The relative advantages of the five types of continuity methods which can be used for precast, pretensioned bridge beams are discussed. These are: wide and narrow in-situ integral crossheads; integral crosshead cast in two stages; continuous separated deck slab; and tied deck slab. It then describes a survey of existing bridges constructed by these methods which was carried out for the Transport Research Laboratory. (A) For the covering abstract see IRRD 873218.
