SOME THOUGHTS ABOUT TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS, TRAFFIC SAFETY AND THE SAFETY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
The safety management system is a process that weds traffic safety and transportation engineering, leading to the system's intended product--mobility. Traffic safety and efficiency were once synonymous; however, safety has become secondary as mobility is threatened by congestion. This article explains how safety and efficiency go hand-in-hand and emphasizes that these two entities belong on the same side of the equation. Ultimately, quality and quantity of mobility depend on the combination of traffic safety and transportation engineering.
