SURVEY OF PARK & RIDE LOT USERS IN NORTHERN VIRGINIA

This report documents the results of a Virginia Department of Transportation survey of the users of park and ride (P&R) lots in three major corridors in Northern Virginia, but outside the Capital Beltway and excluding Metrorail lots. Over 4,000 postcard questionnaires were placed on the windshields of cars parked in selected P&R lots and 2,304 were returned for a survey response rate of 57 percent. The purpose of this survey was to obtain P&R lot data to develop a model to forecast demands for future P&R lots needed throughout Northern Virginia over the next 20 years. This would allow VDOT to plan the sizes and locations for the most effective P&R lots in Northern Virginia.
