PLANNING PARK AND RIDES FOR INTERSTATE/HOV CORRIDORS IN NORTHERN NEW JERSEY

As part of programs to reduce Single Occupant Vehicle (SOV) use and the related development of High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes along Interstate Highway corridors in Northern New Jersey, the NJ Department of Transportation (NJDOT) commissioned this study of park-and-ride facilities; estimate the potential demand at these locations; and recommend specific sites and conceptual plans. Some sites would be along major routes, and some would be "stand-alone" sites. This effort focused primarily on facilities for bus transit and for ridesharing. At certain sites, where there was also an adjacent commuter rail line, the potential for multi-modal park and ride was considered and pursued, as appropriate.
