The article outlines some of the most important latest safety features often used to promote vehicle sales to assist the driver in selecting a vehicle that will provide comfortable and safe motoring. Anti-lock brake systems help to prevent skidding and maintain unimpaired steering whilst braking. Traction control systems help to maintain grip when accelerating on slippery surfaces. Active chassis control significantly reduces changes during acceleration, deceleration and cornering. Seat belts are effective in protecting vehicle occupants from injury during collisions. Supplementary restraint systems, such as driver air bags, have been developed to protect the face, head and upper torso. Much research has been carried out to design an effective protective cabin. Ergonomic studies are used to ensure human-friendly features essential for safe driving.
