MITIGATION MEASURES FOR SMALL STRUCTURES ON COLLAPSIBLE ALLUVIAL SOILS. DISCUSSION AND CLOSURE
A discussion of a paper with the aforementioned title by Rollins and Rogers, published in this journal (Volume 120, Number 9, September 1994), is presented. Discusser Day suggests that compacted fill layers below a footing are not always effective in minimizing differential settlement. Day offers another method for stabilizing collapsible alluvium--compaction grouting--which is practical and economical. Discussion is followed by closure from the authors.
