ECONOMETRIC TESTING OF INVESTMENT INCENTIVES: UPDATE OF MARLOW MODEL
The authors re-examine investment incentives and the factors expected to be relevant to shipping investment decisions in the United Kingdom, according to standard econometric methods by Marlow. Marlow's model is reviewed and extended to the present day. By respecifying the dependent variable as a gross investment rate--allowing for the possibility that the impact of investment decision may be lagged and by introducing changes in world conditions rather than their levels--the results change significantly. A distinct and positive relationship exists between incentives and new investment in ships.
