ENERGY PROJECTIONS FOR THE UK. ENERGY USE AND ENERGY-RELATED EMISSIONS OF CARBON DIOXIDE IN THE UK 1995-2020

This paper presents the results of work by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to update and revise the projections of future energy demand and carbon dioxide emissions which were published in Energy Paper 59 in 1992. A range of possible scenarios are considered for the main determinants of energy demand. These combine situations of high, central and low economic growth with high and low fossil fuel prices. Modelling procedures are outlined and assumptions discussed. Final user demand projections are described for the six main scenarios in each of the categories: (a) domestic; (b) iron and steel; (c) other industries; (d) service sector; and (e) transport. The effect on primary energy demand and carbon dioxide emissions is discussed.
