ON THE SPRINGING VIBRATION OF LARGE SHIPS

The nature, characteristics and mechanism of springing vibration is studied. Springing vibration is a serious problem on large ships, especially VLCCs. A theoretical study, models tests and full- scale trials are presented. Factors affecting springing vibration and the influence on the longitudinal and fatigue strength are discussed.
