STUDY ON THE ONBOARD PREDICTIVE SHIP MOTION ANALYZER - I

An Onboard Predictive Ship Motion (OPSM) analyzer is proposed. The time series of a ship's motion are assumed to be locally stationary processes. The fundamental model to represent them is an autoregressive model and the online Ozaki-Tong's fitting procedure is used for building the adaptive autoregressive model to such locally stationary process. Having fitted the autoregressive model, it is transformed to a state space model and on line smoothing, filtering and predicting of the observed time series data is carried out, using a Kalman filter. In this paper, the ability of the system as a predictor is checked, as the first step, by fitting to the actual rolling and pitching data of a middle and a small class of ship.
