CHARACTERISTICS OF NUCLEAR POWERED SHIP MUTSU'S SHIP MOTION AND REACTOR SYSTEM BEHAVIOUR

A nuclear powered ship, which has the advantages of voyage capability with a high power level, is directly or indirectly influenced by ship motions or sea waves. An experimental voyage was undertaken to obtain the data concerning the effect of ship motions and sea wave on the reactor system. The behaviour of the reactor system was analyzed by the wave height data, ship motions and turbine load, in manoeuvring and straight cruising against swell. The response of the reactor power and water levels in the steam generator and the pressurizer to the wave, ship motions or manoeuvring are discussed.
