THE ACTUAL STATE OF SHIP ENCOUNTER WAVES AND SHIP'S MOTIONS - II. SUCCESSIVE MEASUREMENT AT A CONTAINER SHIP IN NORTH PACIFIC OCEAN

The authors developed a voyage recorder which automatically measures and records the data of encounter winds, waves and ship motions. The data is measured at an interval of 0.5 seconds for 10 minutes every hour. Some analyzed information extracted from the recorded data is reported: 1) actual quantity of ship encounter waves and ship motion; 2) occurrence distribution of those data in every region and in every season; 3) the relation of the average and the most severe quantity; 4) actual performance curve (ship speed reduction by waves) and 5) the relation of the measured and the visual wave height by crew.
