A DESCRIPTION OF WAVE FORM OF SOLITARY AND ASYMMETRIC WAVES

In order to standardize the wave form of asymmetric waves, this paper attempts to describe this wave form simply and mathematically using a deformation function and regular waves, such as the sinusoidal wave, the trochoidal wave and the Stoke's wave. The deformation function fd is defined to be fd = A<<<NEED-LINES=101>>> xp(B( -A0)), where A and B are deformation factors, is the wave surface elevation and A0 is the wave amplitude H/2. It is confirmed that the wave forms described are in good agreement with geometric characteristics of extreme waves measured in the ocean and with a numerically calculated wave form.
