APPROACH CHANNELS; PRELIMINARY GUIDELINES

This report reviews good modern practice for the determination of approach channel width, depth and alignment with a view to providing practical guidance to designers. The information provided is suitable for concept design and uses information gathered worldwide which is representative of good modern practice. It will be satisfactory for the preliminary design of most channels, but it is accepted that some occasions will arise when such a technique will be inappropriate and the more elaborate methods of detailed design will have to be employed. Aspects of detailed design are considered in the report.
