SOLAR TURBINES JET UNIQUE TRICATS TO 50 KNOTS

FBM Marine's innovative Tricat high speed 300-passenger capacity ferries are the first fast commercial craft to adopt Solar gas turbines. The Solar Taurus 60M gas turbines, each rated at 4500kW, drive KaMeWa waterjets. The compact size and high power-to-weight ratio of the turbines offered particular advantages over a diesel engine configuration, the high speed requirement was unlikely to have been generated by a diesel plant which would have been restricted in size, and hence in power, by the compact dimension of the engine rooms. The turbines promise low noise and low exhaust emissions using high grade fuels and long 15 000h TBO intervals.
