ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF A COMPUTERIZED BASIC SHIP DESIGN SYSTEM

The paper describes a computerized basic ship design system recently developed in Korea. The system is composed of the database system, the modelling system, the application programs, and the user interface. To manage the database, a general purpose relational database management system ORACLE is used. For the user interface the concept of graphical user interface is applied. The modelling system defines the data structure of the hull form, the compartment layout, and the midship structure arrangement. The application programs perform the basic ship design tasks of conceptual design, hull form design, and structural design as well as the analysis of the hydrodynamic and structural performances.
