SMEDVIG FPSO TAILOR-MADE FOR SMALLER FIELDS

A new Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) unit is currently being fabricated in Singapore. Called the SPU 380, this will be the first purpose-built, tailor-made vessel to produce fields with recoverable reserves of 30 to 100M barrels of oil. The purpose- designed monohull contains oil and gas processing, oil storage and oil offloading facilities. The SPU 380 is 211m long, 36m breadth and 20.8m in depth. It has a design draught of 14m, and a displacement of 87 000t. It will be able to store 380 000 barrels of oil in its ten crude oil tanks. Positioning is by means of catenary mooring lines consisting of 10 lines, each 92mm controlled by five double windlasses, with thruster assistance.
