GREEKS OPT FOR NEW FASTER, SAFER RO-RO FERRIES

Bremerhaven-based Schichau Seebeckwerft has recently delivered the first of a pair os 23 000gr 'Superfast' ferries for service in the Adriatic. The Greek operator Attica Enterprises, claims that the vessels SUPERFAST I and SUPERFAST II will be the fastest and safest monohull ro-ros so far built. A maximum speed of 27 knots was achieved under trial conditions. A service speed of about 26.8 knots is expected and this will allow for a transit time of 20 hours, with port turnaround time being approximately three and a half hours in total.
