Star Shipping A/S of Bergen, Norway have ordered 8 45 000 dwt open-hatch vessels of a new generation for carrying forest products, containers and bulk cargoes, such as coal, ore or grain. The Star 'H'-class building contract was split between Japanese and South Korean yards. This article, which includes general arrangement drawings, describes one of the 8 vessels, STAR HIDRA, which was built at Mitsui's Tamano yard in Japan. The vessel's principle particulars are: propulsion Mitsui-MAN B&W 6S60MC length, overall 199.90m length, between perpendiculars 190.00m breadth, moulded 31.00m depth, moulded 19.00m draught, design 12.00m tonnage, deadweight 45 000 t speed, service 16 knots container capacity 1 928 TEU
