BALLAST TANK INTEGRITY

Now approved in draft form by IMO, and likely to come into force in 1999, an additional SOLAS regulation (11-1/14-1) will require corrosion prevention systems to be fitted in all oil tanker and bulk carrier sea-water ballast tanks. This article discusses the draft which offers guidelines for the selection, application, maintenance and management of such systems.
