A STUDY ON FLOW FIELD AROUND FULL SHIP FORMS IN MANOEUVRING MOTION; 1ST REPORT: IN OBLIQUE FLOW

A numerical solution for the Navier-Stokes equation based on the finite-volume approach is employed in this study and the viscous flow field around two types of full ships with different aft parts, under oblique towing condition is computed. Model experiments are also conducted to validate the numerical results. A comparison of the computation and experiments shows that the hydrodynamic forces, pressure distribution of the hull surface, and the flow field in the neighbourhood of the ship stern are in satisfactorily agreement.
