A METHOD TO CALCULATE CHARACTERISTICS OF SUPERCAVITATING PROPELLER MAKING USE OF 2-D THEORY FOR CAVITATING WING

A method was developed to calculate the characteristics of a supercavitating propeller making use of 2-D theories for partially cavitating and supercavitating wings. First, the equivalent 2-D wing sections for the blade of a propeller operating in the noncavitating condition was obtained using the quasi-vortex-lattice method. 2-D cavitating wing theories were then applied to the equivalent 2-D wing sections and the characteristics of supercavitating propellers were calculated using the wing element theory. Comparison of calculated and experimental results confirmed the usefulness of the method.
