OPTIMUM DISPOSITION OF WOODEN BLOCKS DURING SHIP DOCKING

A mathematical model for the optimum disposition of wooden blocks during ship docking is developed. The multi-level technique and constrained variable method are adopted to obtain optimum solutions on a microcomputer. The effect of the foundation on which the blocks stand, maximum allowable stressed area of a wooden block, and the condition of fore and stern hull structures on optimum results are discussed. Some useful conclusions are drawn. The results of the docking of two ships have shown that the proposed optimum method is reliable.
