INSTRUCTORS' MANUAL FOR A DWI MINI-COURSE FOR HIGH SCHOOL DRIVER EDUCATION PROGRAMS

The Instructors' Manual for the DWI Mini-Course for High School Driver Education Programs is intended as a guide for presenting the essentials of what should be known and done about DWI, capitalizing on the inherent interest of teenagers in driving. The Manual is based on the assumptions that most teenagers will drink, will drive, and a Mini-Course providing opportunities to reduce involvement in DWI situations is appropriately placed in high school. Evaluation was accomplished by obtaining opinions of field-testing instructors, pre/post adminstration of test batteries with data collection and analysis. The Mini-course showed most strongly for knowledge, more moderately for attitude, and marginally for behavioral intentions. The findings were utilized to strengthen Mini-Course content and presentation in areas demonstrably weak; the present version reflects these changes. The Manual also contains a description and analysis of the pre-post test administrations.
