MODEL TEST FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE CONTROL SYSTEM OF A FULLY- SUBMERGED HYDROFOIL CATAMARAN, THE "RAINBOW"
Based on the results of the design concept for the control system of a fully submerged catamaran, the authors planned and carried out the following model tests to obtain the necessary data for the detailed design of the system: (1) A test using a small radio-controlled model manufactured on the basis of the design concept of the actual craft to study the basic requirements of the control system. (2) Take-off and landing simulations by controlling a larger model in the towing tank, together with the measurement of resistance in hull-borne and foil-borne conditions. The results of these model tests were reflected in the design of the control system for the "Rainbow" and the vessel could take-off successfully in her sea trial.
