NOTCH SHAPE FACTORS OF BUTT JOINTS AND DOUBLE-T BUTT JOINTS

In various concepts of notch mechanics for estimating the fatigue strength of welded joints the notch shape factor Kt at the notches in danger of cracking is required as an input value. The value of Kt depends on the type of stress and in particular on the type of welded joint and the weld geometry. For butt joints and double-T joints under perpendicular force or bending suitable approximation formulae for the quantitative description of these influences are put forward, which have been developed from a large number of numerically determined Kt values.
