REDUCTION OF WALKING DISTANCES IN PASSENGER AIR TERMINALS BY FLEXIBLE AIRCRAFT POSITIONING

WEGLANGEN-REDUZIERUNG IN FLUGGAST-EMPFANGSANLAGEN DURCH FLEXIBLE VORFELDPOSITIONIERUNG

The strong increase in air transport caused comprehensive alterations in the field of passenger terminals. This investigation deals with walking distances to be covered by passengers in terminals. A model is proposed by which these distances can be reduced by means of a serviceable allocation of aircraft positions for arriving airplanes. The existing practical restrictions (methods of organization) are considered to an extent necessary for the (real-time) application of the proceeding in reality. The simulation of the total air traffic and the extent of passenger activities enables the application of a model under realistic conditions. Thus, the influence of different operational strategies in the field of aircraft positioning can be determined and different selected conceptions of passenger terminals are investigated with respect to distances. Apart from the reduction of passenger walking distances further objective functions can also be considered. In addition, the simulation model presents some possibilities for advanced general considerations or even for the investigation of other components of the total terminal system. /Author/
