ICEBREAKER PERFORMANCE PREDICTION

The performance of eighteen major icebreakers is compared based on dedicated trials data which have been corrected to similar environmental and ship hull conditions. Performance predictors are presented for level ice resistance, the influence on resistance of hull lubrication systems, ice ridge resistance, turning circle diameter in ice and open water resistance. The performance predictors cover the hull range of traditional and contemporary icebreaker designs to date.
