INVESTIGATION INTO THE EFFECTS OF OBLIGATORY USE OF SAFETY BELTS ON THE VOLUME OF USE: USE OF SAFETY BELTS

The purpose of the investigation is to follow the effect of the obligation to use safety belts that came into force as from 1 July 1975 on the actual use of belts. The investigation as a whole will be made so that the volume of use of safety belts before the coming into force of the obligation, at the moment of enforcement and about a year after the date of enforcement is examined. This report deals with the results of the first two phases of the investigation: the use of safety belts before the obligation and immediately after safety belts were made compulsory. The material was collected by observing the use of safety belts by driver and front seat passenger by not stopping the vehicle. In addition, an interview was made, the purpose of which was to examine the proportion of automobiles taken into use before 1971 of all passenger cars and the existence of safety belts in such cars and the percentage of use in cars fitted with safety belts. /Author/
