A STUDY ON PROPELLER THRUST AND TORQUE INCREASE IN REGULAR WAVES

The paper describes the open water tests of a propeller model with pitching and heaving in regular waves. The characteristic curves of thrust and torque of a propeller moving at given speeds and under a variety of wave frequencies are obtained. The relationship between those in waves and in calm water are established which can be used for preliminary estimation. The open water propeller's hydrodynamic performance in regular waves are also calculated by using 3-D Green function method in which case the propeller was replaced by a sink disk. The calculation results are in accordance with tests.
