UNDERWATER OBSERVATIONS OF ICE/STRUCTURE INTERACTIONS IN SMALL-CRAFT HARBOURS
Methods used and information obtained from underwater (ice) observations of ice/structure interactions of small-craft harbours in western Lake Superior are presented. The design of a marina or small-craft harbour is site-specific and the designer must attempt to characterise each site by its relevant parameters. Included among these parameters are water motions and various ice conditions and formations. Although these parameters and harsh winter weather cause significant structure damage in Great Lakes marinas, engineers can predict relevant criteria for design at a given site.
