THE ECONOMIC IMPORTANCE OF PLEASURE CRAFT AS A GUIDE FOR DUTCH GOVERNMENT POLICY
A significant number of Dutch waterways are no longer suitable for modern goods transport because of their restricted dimensions, but these waterways are used very intensively for pleasure navigation. The maintenance operation, capital costs etc. of these small waterways sometimes entails major expenditure by the Dutch Government. The socioeconomic justification for this expenditure was examined by means of a simulation described in this paper.
