PROBLEMS OF COASTAL ENGINEERING

The littoral zone is the site of complex sedimentary movements caused by the interaction of various dynamic agencies (swell and associated currents, tidal drift and wind) whose characteristics manifest important spatial and temporal variations. The definition, of coastal engineering projects requires the integration of sedimenting mechanisms for optimisation of functional, economic and environmental aspects. Recent French experience is described, particularly that gained in the French department of Guyana.
