TRENDS OF OFFSHORE INDUSTRY IN RAUMA-REPOLA OY

Realising the absence of a home market for oil exploration or production technology, the Finnish shipbuilding Rauma-Repola started a diversification of its offshore industry in 1985. Two areas of growing future activity were identified: underwater operations and development of Arctic hydrocarbon resources. Both of these represent existing activities on a small scale but their future looks promising. In particular, the affiliation of Drass S.p.A. with Rauma-Repola will help Rauma-Repola's Subsea Technology Group in the development of new technologies for underwater systems. For the Arctic waters, Rauma-Repola has developed designs for all-year exploration drilling and production units. As a further example of development work for the offshore industry, mention is made of a new jack-up power transmission system.
