RESISTANCE TO DEFORMATION OF DENSE BITUMEN MACADAM BASECOURSES WITH SAND FINE AGGREGATE

The specification for road and bridge works restricts the use of sand fine aggregate in dense bitumen macadam basecourses to the more lightly trafficked roads. Recent laboratory tests have indicated, however, that the resistance to deformation of basecourses made with 100 pen bitumen and a wide range of sands would be adequate for the most heavily-trafficked roads using the same target binder content as at present specified. /Author/TRRL/
